Prince Edward Island:

Masters In Arts (UPEI) Cooperative Project:
Helping a student group at the University of Prince Edward Island to become a formal organization which will possibly aid them in their search for funding. This group will also act as a “welcoming committee” for new students of the program, and will offer resources to their members as well.

UPEI Organic Food Cooperative Project:
Helping a group at the University to continue their “organic food days” at the UPEI courtyard cafeteria. At the moment they are merely in the beginning planning stages of the project

Charlottetown Craft Cooperative Project:
Helping individuals that have expressed interest in developing a retail craft cooperative for the downtown region of Charlottetown.

Importing/Exporting Cooperative Project:
Helping a group of students to incorporate as they are interested in importing and exporting craft products internationally for the basis of research.

Kinsman Family Cottage Cooperative Project:
Helping a family chose the best route for property/asset ownership.

Afro-Canada Centre for Art and Culture Cooperative (Incorporated):
Helping a group of individuals through the incorporation process. Their cooperative is to embrace and share Canadian African heritage.

Cricket Club Cooperative Project:
Helping an interested group in the incorporation of a cricket club cooperative, administrative and research was required.

LEAP Project/Call Centre Cooperative Project:
Helping to incorporate a “make-work project” cooperative for low-income family with small children.

Black Islander’s Cooperative:
Helping to promote and attend various functions put on by the formally MYDAS incorporated cooperative.

Eco-Net PEI Cooperative Limited:
Offering cooperative expertise and service through a mutually beneficial partnership.

Caroline Thomas Cooperative Project:
Tentative cooperative project, more details in the works. Based out of Halifax, NS and is in regards to Black heritage and the delivery of historical information to the public.

Alternative Energy Cooperative Project:
Possible involvement in the Provincial government’s development and implementation of a alternative energy wind site cooperative in Souris, PEI.

Coopérative Service Jeunesse:
Intern is working as facilitator/secretary for this youth workers cooperative, helping them with marketing, coordination, etc.

Chez Nous Seniors Home:
Project consists of advisory services in the form of accounting (payroll, taking rent, paying bills) while providing resource and administrative support.

Conseil de developpement cooperatif (CDC):
This is a coordination body for all the coops in the region and for them an intern is organizing some marketing in the form of a website, community bulletin, and information kiosk at an upcoming festival

Coop d'Artisnat d'Abrams Village:
Helping to coordinate renovations for this cooperative and attempting to aid them in the search for funding and grants.


New Brunswick:

Vision Action Collective, The Underground:
Establishing a vegan café and bookroom in Fredericton, New Brunswick to serve the alternative community and provide space for community groups.

Ann Carol Enterprises Ltd:
Helping to incorporate some co-operative material into a year-long course for low-income individuals to start their own businesses.

Enterprise Fundy, Enterprise Carleton and Enterprise Saint John:
Helping to educated and provide materials to employees of the Enterprise centers across NB so they can offer their clients the co-operative option.

Leadership Fredericton:
Helping provide materials about co-operatives for people who take the community leadership training course through Leadership Fredericton, YMCA.

La Coop de St-Paul :
Aide au développement de la Coop en sensibilisant la communauté de St-Paul-de-Kent du mouvement coopératif, ainsi débutant une recherche Marketing.

Coopérative d’Immigrant vivant dans des communauté rural :
Offre de la consultation a M. Jacque Lapointe ( Carrefour d’immigration Rurale, St-Léonard ) Travail en collaboration pour trouver une coopérative qui pourrait servir au immigrant.

Coopérative de développement Régional Acadie:
Travail à la possibilité d’un forum Coopératif offert a des jeunes Francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick

Atlantic Cooperative Youth Leadership Cooperative Project:
This program is for those between 16-18 who would like to develop and discover leadership’s skills that will help build confidence, trust and character. The program is offered for everyone in the Atlantic region, this year the camp base is in Newfoundland. The program has been established for some time and is now looking to incorporate.

Future Cooperative Project:
Interested individuals from an Aboriginal community are interested in creating a worker cooperative out of Moncton, NB..


Newfoundland:

Indian Head Co-op:
Helping the established cooperative in regards to marketing and developing a plan for the next five years. (increasing sales, clientele, etc)

Ramea Community Co-op:
Assisting the Ramea co-op with promotion of the co-op as well as the selling of shares.

Education Network:

Meeting with an interested group about forming a “Day-care” co-op

Potenscial Hemlock Farming Co-op:

Promoting the idea of a farming co-op through presentations and other media packages.


Nova Scotia:
MYDAS Interns: Stuart Neatby and Matthew Petre

Seniorpreneurs:
Worked with the key members from the Seniorpreneurs Society to educate them on the benefits of incorporating as a co-operative, and possible funding opportunities for their senior focused program.

Wild Blueberry Harvest Festival Co-operative:
Attended their first AGM as a NSCC (Nova Scotia Co-operative Council) representative, in Fred Pierce’s place. Provided advisory services with regards to operations.

Community Credit Union, Colchester County:
Will be meeting with Bruce Cowie to discuss opportunities related to Credit Union Central Nova Scotia’s Youth Initiative.

Healthy Minds Co-operative:
Assisted in process leading up to incorporation. Currently working on a marketing/promotion strategy as well as assisting their interim board with governance and operations issues.

Heatherdale Cemetery Co-operative:

Assisted in incorporation process.

Nova Scotia Co-operative Council:
Creating a guide for community groups interested in starting a Funeral Home Co-operative. In this initiative I am working with Arimathea Funeral Co-op and Passage Funeral Co-op. Co-coordinating co-operative forums/world cafes in conjunction with the NSCC. Will be creating a blog for Fred Pierce to communicate with NSCC members in Central Nova Scotia.

Solidarity Boots:
Currently aiding in the incorporation of a non-profit marketing co-op for boots produced in a co-operative factory in Chiapas, Mexico. They are currently a sole proprietorship.

Halifax/Central NS Co-op Forum:
Currently working to organize a World Cafe event for members of co-operatives in the region in order to provide a space for dialogue between youth-lead co-ops and more established co-ops.

Governance Diagnostic Tool:
Currently working with NSCC to undertake exploratory research for the development of a board governance diagnostic tool

Immigrant Catering Co-op:
Have been working with a small group of immigrants who are playing with the idea of starting an international food catering company.

General outreach:
Tabling at events with info on Co-ops; General presentations to 4 community groups so far; interviewed on local community radio; canvasing community orgs; articles to be printed in small local community papers.

Brock University, Faculty of Business and Co-operative Education Departments:
Facilitated relationship building between MYDAS, the Faculty of Business and Co-operative Education Department. Position postings for next year have been agreed upon and efforts are still being made to conduct research with an Entrepreneurship Professor contrasting Co-operative and Private Enterprise Entrepreneurship.
